Mike Garee
Before even thinking about college, Mike Garee spent a decade in the Marine Corps. As a sergeant, he soon learned
that the officers under whom he served were no brighter then he. That's when he started
thinking about college.
Though he went to college on the GI-Bill, it wasn't easy going, with a wife and two
young children to support. But, before long, Mike had graduated from Illinois State
University with a degree in English.
Mike Garee has a great deal of experience in a wide variety of disciplines, including
communication, advertising, sales promotion, research and marketing and personal selling.
In addition to his BS degree in English, Mike has done extensive graduate work in English
and journalism. He taught communication and print journalism courses at Illinois State
University for over a decade.
In addition to owning and operating several small businesses, including an advertising
agency and a real estate communication company, Mike was employed for some years at
State Farm Insurance Companies’ and at a major Farm Bureau insurer. While with State
Farm, he was editor of the national magazine for agents. While in the insurance industry,
Mike earned both the Chartered Life Underwrite and Chartered Financial Consultant
designations.
Over the years he has published many articles in a wide variety of print publications,
many of which are featured at this web site.
